This is a short note on this plate that has been refinished. We needed to sand through the original and previous finish to achieve a smooth surface for the first coat of gold or primer. Sanding by hand was not an option. It was very brutal. Festool with 80 grid sanding pad worked well here. The last pass was sanding by hand with 150 grid sandpaper. The plate looks sad after sanding. Hopefully won't look too bad after the first coat. Next time it may be better to use wire wheel brush on a drill to remove old finish. The shop owner invested some white colored primer to fill uneven spots on plate. 8 hours after spraying primer, it can be lightly sanded smooth with scotch brite or 320 to 400 grid sand paper, then sprayed with a coat of gold and a coat of clear top coat. Picture shows plate lettering with enamel and felting after final clear coat dries.
