The fallboard rod holder on this spinet snapped into two pieces. The piano part suppliers don't sell replacements anymore. My mentor Debbie Cyr and good technician friend Hillary York came up with the idea of rod/pipe holders at handwear stores. So here is the adventure. The first piece is a two-hole 3/4" pipe strap. They can be easily found at Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware. It is cut in half in the middle, then the flat part clamped into a vise. The cut-in-half rounded part was bent around a 3/8 inch rod. Later I found the second piece, 3/8" one-hole conduit strap, which can be used as is without cutting nor bending, available at Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace Hardware. I think any local hardware stores would have them. The original holder is too big and slack, see picture on top of the journal. The replacements are much tighter.
My gratitude to Debbie and Hillary. Also many thanks to Nena and Zlatko Pavlovic who are very fine refinishers for pianos and furniture. These amazing people guide me through countless tough difficulties. Yet the biggest support... my dear other half who provides problem solving methods, adaptations from woodwork and boat building to piano, and much more. Did I mention throwing cabbage at his toes to release anger, confusion, frustration, irritation, desperation, procrastination, etc. Thank you all! Comments are closed.
